Building a life we actually want to live.
Financial independence is important to us — but it’s not the whole point.
We don’t want to spend decades obsessing over saving money so that we can eventually start living. We’re trying to build a life that feels good now, while gradually creating the financial freedom to have more choices in the future.
For us, that means questioning some of the assumptions we’ve inherited about what a successful life is supposed to look like.
How much do we really need? What makes us happy? How do we want to spend our time? What do we want our children to experience? And which things are actually worth spending our money on?
This is where we explore those questions.
Family
Having children changes almost everything.
Our priorities, our finances, our plans for the future and our definition of a good life have all evolved since becoming parents.
We write about the reality of trying to build financial freedom while raising a family — from everyday decisions about spending and time, to bigger questions about education, travel and the kind of childhood we want our children to have.

Minimalism
We’re not interested in owning as little as humanly possible.
For us, minimalism is about something simpler:
Having less stuff competing for our money, space, time and attention.
We explore decluttering, intentional spending, consumerism and the practical reality of trying to live with less — without turning life into a constant exercise in deprivation.

Work & Lifestyle
Work takes up a huge part of our lives.
So we’re interested in more than simply earning as much as possible.
How much is enough? What does a good work-life balance actually look like? When is earning more worth the extra time and stress? And how can financial independence give us greater control over how we spend our working lives?
These are questions we’re still figuring out.

Health & Fitness
It’s difficult to enjoy financial freedom if you don’t have the time, energy or health to enjoy the life you’ve built.
Here we share our attempts to stay active, healthy and capable — without turning fitness into another expensive hobby or another thing to feel guilty about.

Mindset
A lot of personal finance is about numbers.
But the decisions behind those numbers are usually much more complicated.
Why do we spend? Why do we save? What are we afraid of? What does “enough” actually mean?
We explore the psychology, habits and ideas that have influenced the way we think about money, work and life.

Life Before FIRE
One of the ideas at the heart of A Way to Less is that financial independence shouldn’t mean putting your life on hold.
We’re building towards a future where work becomes optional — but we’re also trying to make the most of the years between now and then.
That might mean travelling with our children rather than waiting until we’re retired.
It might mean spending money on experiences we genuinely value.
It might mean choosing a simpler life rather than continually trying to earn and consume more.
And sometimes it means making decisions that don’t look particularly “FIRE-friendly” on paper.
We’re interested in finding the balance.
Because the goal isn’t simply to reach a number.
The goal is to have the freedom to choose what happens next.
What’s happening now?
Six weeks. Three countries. Two children.
In January 2027, we’re heading to Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore for six weeks as a family.
Our six-year-old will temporarily leave school for the trip, and we’re hoping to turn the experience into much more than a holiday — exploring what happens when you step outside the usual routine and give your children the opportunity to learn through travel.
We’ll be documenting the experience alongside our ongoing FIRE journey.
