Summary
Welcome to our April spending post! This month, we spent a total of £2,509.
It was a bit of a strange month as we were on holiday for 2 weeks, most of which was already paid for. But a few large expenses meant we ended up at a similar total to the previous couple of months.
We’ve sorted our spending into the essentials—housing, food, and transport—plus a catch-all entertainment and miscellaneous category. As always, we’ll break down each area and give you the story behind any standout expenses.
| Category | Amount |
|---|---|
| Housing | £426 |
| Food | £514 |
| Transport | £124 |
| Entertainment/misc | £1,445 |
| Total | £2,509 |

We’ll take a closer look at each of these categories in the next sections and point out any major spending.

We continue to be very happy with our energy supplier, Octopus Energy. Our energy is from 100% renewable sources too which is a great bonus. If you are interested, click through this link and you will get £50 and so will we! It can be hard to find a decent energy company but we really do recommend Octopus.
Food
Our April spending on food was £514. This includes everything on our supermarket shop receipts for the month. This is lower than usual because we were on holiday for 2 weeks!
Transport
Our April spending on transport is fairly normal – no fuel but it’s swapped for a motoring club renewal.
| Category | Amount |
|---|---|
| Fuel | £0 |
| Train | £66 |
| Parking | £4 |
| Motoring Club (inc MOT) | £54 |
| Total | £124 |
Entertainment/Misc
Our April spending on misc items includes holiday spending for a 2 week trip to Spain. We also decided to sign up to a health monitoring/blood test service. It’s ran by Dr Rangan Chatterjee, who’s podcast we both follow. We’ll let you know how it goes and if it was worth it! It was partly a 40th Birthday present for Mrs Way… Otherwise nothing major to note in this category.

We recently switched mobile network to Lebara. Our SIM only deals are really cheap and the service has been great. If you want to give them a go please follow this referral link.
That’s All for Now, Folks!
Considering the average UK household spend is £2,700, our aim is to get down below that level. We initially thought we would be able to go much lower but have been surprised by the increase in just about everything since we came back in 2023!
See you next month!
