Monthly Spending – July 2025

Summary

Welcome to our July spending post! Our total spend for the month was £3,131.

This month has been hijacked by an admin error! We forgot to include some of our June spending, so it’s lumped in with July instead. 3 of our 4 birthdays also needed paying for, as well as a trip away!

We break our main expenses down into broad categories starting with the big 3; housing, food and transport. Everything else falls into the entertainment category, with any large inclusions explained in detail.

CategoryAmountNotes
Housing£383See below
Food£1,263See below
Transport£248See below
Entertainment/misc£1,237See below
Total£3,131

We break each of these categories down in the following sections, giving detail for any large expenses.

Housing

Our July spending on housing is fairly standard, with just the usual bills to pay.

Gas & Electric£121See below
Water£65
Council Tax£197
Internet£0
Total£383

We continue to be very happy with our energy supplier, Octopus Energy. Our energy is from 100% renewable sources too which is a great bonus. If you are interested, click through this link and you will get £50 and so will we! It can be hard to find a decent energy company but we really do recommend Octopus.

Food

Our July spending on food was £1,263. This includes everything on our supermarket shop receipts for the month. This is higher than normal, because some of it was missed from our June spending post!

Transport

Our July spending on transport is about right for our new ‘normal’, with Mr Way commuting on the bike/train.

CategoryAmountNotes
Fuel£86
Train£126
Bus£6
Parking£11
Car Stuff£19Wiper Blades
Total£248

Entertainment/Misc

Our June spending on misc items is higher than usual due to missing some June spending items. We also paid for a camping trip. We spent more on eating out than usual due to a trip away. Otherwise, fairly normal month here!

CategoryAmountNotes
Phone Bills£13
Eating Out£263
Presents£236
Activities£236
Clothes & Shoes£130
Dental£43
Photos£13
Boat Trip£53

House Stuff£18
Total£1,237
That’s All for Now, Folks!

Considering the average UK household spend is £2,700, our aim is to get down below that level. We initially thought we would be able to go much lower but have been surprised by the increase in just about everything since we came back in 2023!

See you next month!
