Welcome to our May 2025 spending post! Our total spend for the month was £1,784.

It’s another low spend this month, with no abnormal expenses. Long may it continue!

We break our main expenses down into broad categories starting with the big 3; housing, food and transport. Everything else falls into the entertainment category, with any large inclusions explained in detail.

We break each of these categories down in the following sections, giving detail for any large expenses.

Housing

Our May spending on housing is fairly standard, with just the usual bills to pay.

CategoryAmountNotes
Gas & Electric£121See below
Water£65
Council Tax£197
Internet£31
Total£414

We continue to be very happy with our energy supplier, Octopus Energy. Our energy is from 100% renewable sources too which is a great bonus. If you are interested, click through this link and you will get £50 and so will we! It can be hard to find a decent energy company but we really do recommend Octopus.

Food

Our May spending on food was £726. This includes everything on our supermarket shop receipts for the month.

Transport

Our May spending on transport is about right for our new ‘normal’, with Mr Way commuting on the bike/train. A minor car repair didn’t add too much to the total.

CategoryAmountNotes
Fuel£62
Train£91
Car Parts£71
Parking£11
Total£235

Entertainment/Misc

Our May spending on misc items is steady, with no significant items. We bought a huge batch of Lego for our eldest’s birthday, which we’re now regretting slightly as we try to sort through it all!!

CategoryAmountNotes
Phone Bills£13
Eating Out£185
Activities£107
Dental£42
Presents£41
Postage£7
Lego£80
Charity£11
Allotment£63Equipment
Screwfix£14
Ikea£113
Swing£121
Total£409
That’s All for Now, Folks!

Considering the average UK household spend is £2,700, our aim is to get down below that level. We initially thought we would be able to go much lower but have been surprised by the increase in just about everything since we came back in 2023!

See you next month!
