Monthly Spending – October 2023

Summary

Welcome to our October spending post! Our total spend for the month was £1,290

Having paid our rent up front, we’re now seeing the rewards for an expensive September!

We just moved in so we haven’t started paying any bills just yet.

We break our main expenses down into broad categories starting with the big 3; housing, food and transport. Everything else falls into the entertainment category, with any large inclusions explained in detail.

We break each of these categories down in the following sections, giving detail for any large expenses.

Housing

Our October spending on housing is a surprising zero!

We paid our rent up-front and haven’t started paying bills yet, so it will get more expensive in the coming months!

We’re in the process of buying a house which will be mortgage free, so hopefully we can keep our housing costs to a minimum going forward.

Food

Our October spending on food was £403. This includes everything on our supermarket shop receipts for the month.

Transport

Our October spending on transport is very normal. Mr Way’s new job comes with a bit of a commute and he has been on various work trips, so the fuel costs are higher than our usual. Luckily the work trips will be paid at 45p per mile.

CategoryAmountNotes
Fuel£150
Bus£12
Total£162

Entertainment/Misc

Our October spending on misc items is fairly standard.

We had a few expenses on musical instruments as Mrs Way looks to get her music groups set up.

We also spent a bit more on eating out that we would like, but cafes are our weak spot!

That’s All for Now, Folks!

We’re looking to reduce our spending in pretty much every area as we settle down to life back in the UK. It will be interesting to see how low we can get our costs! We’re buying our house mortgage free, so we thankfully won’t have to worry about the astronomical interest rates.

Considering the average UK household spend is £2,700 we’re aiming to get down significantly below that level – probably more like £1,500-1,750.

See you next month!
