Resources

We’ve been doing a lot of learning! Here’s a list of the resources we have found useful on our way.

We’ve included our favourites from financial independence, travel, health & fitness and much more! Hopefully you find them useful on your way to a simpler life.

This is a work in progress and will be added to as we think of/discover stuff!

Blogs

The Escape Artist – great UK based financial independence blog

Monevator – great UK source for anything money related. Very detailed.

Go Curry Cracker! – US based early retirees who now travel the world!

Mr Money Mustache – surely needs no introduction

LivingAFI – this blog hasn’t been active since 2016 but is a great log of the author’s journey to financial independence. He has an enjoyable writing style and goes into great detail about his working life and much more!

Podcasts

The Voluntary Life – Jake has had a huge impact on our learning and discusses topics close to our heart – financial independence, travel, education, minimalism and much more. We highly recommend having a listen!

The Mad FIentist – a great FI podcast with some really thought provoking interviews.

Feel Better Live More – Dr Rangan Chaterjee is the GP we wish we had. He uses a lifestyle approach to medicine, treating the underlying issues rather than just covering up the symptoms. His podcast is full of incredibly interesting guests, from professors to pop stars, and he always provides actionable tips for living a healthier life. We highly recommend listening to this.

Useful Websites

Quidco – this is our go-to cashback website. If you sign up via this link, you’ll get a free £10 bonus when you earn your first £5 cashback. We’ll get £10 too! We get some great deals on here – you can get significant cashback on pretty much any spending and sometimes they run bonus offers so you can effectively get stuff for free!

Bodyweight Warrior – Tom has been an inspiration to us in learning about health and fitness. Expert in bodyweight training. Produces great YouTube videos for strength training, yoga and much more.

Antranik – another bodyweight enthusiast but also produces some really good yoga tutorials as well as the occasional mental health discussion.

Salary Calculator Tool – use this to calculate your take-home pay.

Candid Money ‘How Long’ Calculator – this is a really simple but effective FIRE calculator.

Moneysavingexpert.com – this site has some great advice and tools, in particular their mortgage calculator.

Duolingo – learning new languages is fun! Duolingo is unlikely to get you fluent but it’s a start!

Books

RESET: How to Restart Your Life and Get F.U. Money: The Unconventional Early Retirement Plan for Midlife Careerists Who Want to Be Happy* – David Sawyer has written this UK guide to financial independence. It’s more than just a FIRE book though – it’s a whole life ‘reset’ for any middle aged career professional. While we don’t fit this mould, we still found many useful tips in this book. Would highly recommend giving it a read.

Overcoming Gravity* – this is the ultimate bible for gymnastic strength training. It discusses all aspects of how to get the most out of your training. As well as detailed breakdowns of how to carry out gymnastic skills for all abilities, it includes a lot of science about how and when to train. A great resource you’ll come back to time and time again!

The Simple Path to Wealth* – a bit US heavy on some of the numbers but it’s a good overview of how to achieve FI.

The Richest Man in Babylon* – a great set of short stories set in ancient Babylon, teaching the principles of money. Not much has changed since!!

If you have any suggestions to add to the list, why not let us know?!
