Monthly Spending – June 2021

Summary

Welcome to our June spending post! Our total spend for the month was £-408

This came about because we received another generous donation towards our wedding costs from parents. We wanted to include this in our spending post for full transparency. Despite various balances being due this month, we still didn’t manage to cancel it all out, meaning we end with a negative spend. However, we’ve spent over our average the last few months so this simply averages those out.

Monthly Spending – March 2021

Summary

Welcome to our March spending post! Our total spend for the month was £2,768

Another month ticks by. As things start to return slowly towards normal, we at least have a few things to look forward to.

We’re quite a long way over our £2,000 target this month, but that was expected. We had a few wedding expenses, as well as spending on Baby Way and ourselves. It was all stuff we’ve been wanting to sort for a long time, but it’s still hard to see such a high total!

Monthly Spending – February 2021

Summary

Welcome to our February spending post! Our total spend for the month was £2,365

The next few months are likely to be a bit over our ‘normal’ target of £2,000 a month due to our impending wedding. We’re busy planning because it looks like we’ll be able to go ahead, assuming the opening up roadmap all goes to plan. Our base costs are very similar to normal.

Monthly Spending – January 2021

Welcome to our January spending post! Our total spend for the month was £2,049

It seemed like 2020 would never end, but we finally made it to 2021! Fingers crossed for a more positive, normal year.

Our total this month is slightly over our £2,000 target, but we bought a few things in the January sales which we’ve been meaning to buy for a long time. We also booked another few bits for the wedding. See below for details on all of this.

How Much Does a Baby Cost?

6 Months In

How much does a baby cost if you’re frugal? It’s really easy to spend a fortune, but we found it hard to find examples of those who are more careful with their money.

The Big Issue

Money can be up there with the biggest worries for new parents. Baby costs are often cited as a reason why couples decide not to have children.

This is understandable considering the commercialisation of anything baby-related. There are endless gadgets and fashion statements out there for new parents. Clever marketing teams are tasked with guilt-tripping you into buying their products. You’re led to believe that if you don’t buy the latest gadgets your baby will be left behind!

Annual Spending – 2020

Summary

Welcome to our annual spending post! Our total spend for the year of 2020 was £22,858. For context, this is for 2 adults plus a baby, born in July 2020.

If you’ve been following our monthly spending posts, you’ll know how this goes. Throughout 2020 we managed to keep our spending pretty low. We’re really happy with the total as it’s below our £2,000 per month target by a healthy margin.

This is partly due to being in lockdown and not having much to spend money on. But to be honest, this has had a minimal impact for us. Our spending is low even in normal times, so this year was always going to be a low total. We had already decided we wouldn’t be spending much due to Baby Way arriving in July. Settling into parenthood was our top priority!
